East Sonora Theatre History

Sierra Repertory Theatre began as a dream. Dennis and Sara Jones, David and Kathy Kahn and Doug Brennan gave themselves 90 days to create a stage, box office, and a fully mounted production of Dracula to make the dream happen. Starting with a tin warehouse, the five founders got to work. With a little help from a 99 seat donation from an old Sonora movie theatre, a gothic set from Stanislaus State and a royalty-free play adaptation of Dracula, Sierra Rep’s five young founders saw that dream come to life on February 29, 1980.
